As Nancy from Nanobugs says in her website: “We live in a world where human beings think they rule.”  But we can sometimes forget about the completely unseen kingdom of tiny invisible microbes. Because microbes are invisible to the human eye, sometimes it is very easy to forget they are there. What is so special about what Nanobugs has done is that they actually give life to the microbes and teach both adults and children how to try live in harmony with them.

The Nanobugs custom playing card deck – which is available at the  Nanobugs website is all about the “Microbes with Attitude.  The little bugs are brought to life in clever and colorful cartoon characters such as those seen here.

The Nanobugs were created by combining science, an extremely talented graphic artist and the visionary insight of Inventor Nancy Haberstich to create characters representing bacteria, viruses, and fungi (microbes). Their cartoon image depicts some of the real life natural characteristics of the microbe –  or of the infection it causes.

The bacteria and fungi nanobugs are “morphologically correct”; in other words the body image you see depicted on the playing cards matches their shape as they are observed under the microscope. Whether they are rods, spheres, chains, or clusters the body shape of each “character” is scientifically correct.  Since anaerobic bacteria do not grow in the presence of oxygen those Nanobug characters are shown wearing gas masks!!  🙂
Some nanobugs have a “force field” around them to show that they are resistant to antibiotics.   The whole idea is that by learning something about these different Nanobugs – the average person can create strategies and alter their daily behaviors to try to stay healthier in their everyday lives. Avoid the bad Nanobugs and be thankful for the good ones – that is the mantra. And don’t forget to visit the Nanobugs website website to get your deck of custom playing cards!
