Broadway Show Uses Playing Cards As Tickets
One of our clients is SLEEP NO MORE at the McKittrick Hotel – This is a really interesting and unusual off Broadway show. The casino quality custom playing cards manufactured by Ad Magic, are actually used as entry tickets. The client had them designed using wildly different suits and there is even a number 13 card in addition to the traditional 2 through 10 cards. The face cards – Jack – Queen – Kings and Aces are all incredibly creative and unique.

The back story (which is fake) is this:
Completed in 1939, the McKittrick Hotel was intended to be New York City’s finest and most decadent luxury hotel of its time. Six weeks before opening, and two days after the outbreak of World War II, the legendary hotel was condemned and left locked, permanently sealed from the public. Until now…
Now – 72 years later – a theater company form England has brought back the supposedly “Legendary” hotel and reinvented it with SLEEP NO MORE.
Presenting Shakespeare’s classic Scottish tragedy – audiences move freely through the “Hotel” at their own pace, choosing a unique path through the story, immersed in the most unique theatrical experience in the history of New York.
Featuring some of the most beautiful faces we have ever printed on personalized playing cards – these cards are used as tickets – sold in the retail shop and we also print up special event collectible cards for special shows like Halloween and New Year’s Eve. The unusual characters seen on the customized playing card faces and the unusual “pips” and number card symbols were created by Swayspace in Manhattan – a creative firm led by the brilliant Patrick Fenton.
Special cards are printed for holiday shows – the cards shown below were printed for the Halloween show. I had tickets to attend one of those shows – but of course Hurricane Sandy came that night and that was the end of that.
